In Summer 2014 Amazon chose to lease a new building at 8120 Humble Westfield Rd, in between Lee Rd and Kenswick Dr.
At their new 250,000 square foot LHA fulfillment center Amazon created 200 new jobs. During holiday months every year the hiring of part-time, temporary workers spikes to meet the increased demand.
The Lake Houston Area is home to many global distribution, logistics and warehousing businesses and facilities, so its no surprise that Amazon made the decision to locate their only Houston location in the LHA.
Last summer there was conjecture throughout the economic development field, from the time it was known Amazon was expanding into the LHA, whether there would be any new service lines being developed by Amazon at the LHA fulfillment center.
Sure enough, Amazon began to provide Sunday delivery, Same-Day, Prime Pantry and their Home Services Program from this location to serve Houston customers.
News has recently been broken that yet another new service, Prime Now, will be available to the Houston region via the LHA Amazon location.
The Prime Now service provides Amazon Prime customers with one-hour delivery starting October 15, 2015. One-hour deliveries are designed to allow Prime users to do away with the ‘quick’ trip to pick up every day household and personal items and avoid traffic and check-out lines.
